Jerk
I got to be a jerk today,
I'm really glad I was
I stood for truth, I stood for right.
I stood with God, because,
My son- he needs a father
Not a friend who lets him whine.
He needs a man who stands against his rude, obnoxious times.
I'm sorry for the moment's pain
I'm glad for what it buys
For one day not too far from now,
God will make him good and wise.
My son may be a champion, a leader for some cause,
I want to shape and form him so his life is spent for God.
He may be a missionary, or he may guard our coasts.
He may play the violin, be a running back, or both!
I don't know what my kids will do,
I won't force or pigeonhole.
Still, I know this much for sure,
'Dad' plays a crucial role.
We shape kids' image of a man,
We love, adore their mom.
We live for Christ through all tough times, We provide for the home.
We model how a man has friends,
We show how men play sports.
We live as men, now strong, now meek,
Upholding women's worth.
My son will learn integrity if it's all I that I can teach.
He'll learn the value of the truth. With honor within reach.
I want to be for him a firm, a fun and loving man.
I want my boys to see me live the faith in which I stand.
And if, in all of this for now, my son thinks I'm a jerk.
I'll take that insult as it comes, 'cuz he is worth the work.

this is a great comment on parenting and our role as parents. - reply
